In addition to the money raised for Caps for the Cure, Mrs. Landt's kindergarten class got to celebrate their hard work during our Pennies for Patients war earlier this year by sharing pizza together. Mrs. Landt's class raised $125.52 with Mrs. White's class coming in right behind with $124.63. B.A. Kennedy students all together raised $1,318.16!! Bluff View students in grades 2, 3, and 4 raised $1,155.37.
The money raised for Pennies for Patients goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for research and patient aid in support of their mission to cure these diseases. The survival rate for these childhood cancers has gone from 3% in 1964 to 88% today. How exciting that we have been a part of that success.
My mother recently went through a battle with Lymphoma. She was fortunate to receive a trial drug through UW Clinic in Madison. She has been cancer free for over a year now, and at her most recent appointment her oncologist shared with us that there has been 0 recurrence of Lymphoma with any patients who have received this trial drug. What an amazing discovery and sign of hope. This is a real life example - and only one of many - of how cancer research has helped my family and given my mom new life.
To see the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, families and our community is something we should be so very proud of. The generosity of all of you is saving lives each and every day. THANK YOU!
