School Calendar Error...

The paper calendars that are handed out at registration, open house, etc. have an incorrect date on them.

They indicate that we do not have school on Friday, April 5th and Monday, April 8th, but we really DO have school on those dates.

We DO NOT have school on Monday, April 1st.

We apologize for the error.  Please make a note on your personal calendars that reflects this change.

Thank you!

Learning to Blog...

Many of you will learn of blogs from your child's teacher this year!  This is an exciting transition, as we continue to examine ways we can use technology.  We all learned a lot together.  What a great way to start the morning!

Thanks, PTO!

IMG_2339.JPG

Pictured here are Gabby Ritchie and Brianna Mack.  They are standing by the many supplies that were purchased by our local PTO for 6th grade students.  Every year, PTO has extended the school supply initiative for our community.  This year, each grade level from 4K-6th grade was given $500 for school supplies!!  That is a huge dollar amount per grade level, and allows us to keep our school supply costs down for our parents (lists are minimal for students).  Thanks to PTO for everything they do!  If you would like to become involved with this great organization, contact Mrs. Stuckey for meeting time information.

Mrs. Ashbacher and Mrs. Wahls are holding some of the new computer seats that they spent their time (and their own money) making over the summer for their classrooms.
Aren't they neat?!

And the blogging begins again...

As I reflect tonight on the start of a busy week, I want to take a minute to share some of the great things that I have been witnessing at B.A. Kennedy this week!  The excitement, along with a bit of healthy anxiety :), is obvious as I walk through the hallways, and rooms are looking fantastic!  All are anxiously preparing for the arrival of a new group of students who are ready for and looking forward to the new school year.

The 4K staff was in today working on their final Everyday Math preparation hours, as well as preparing for a new staff member.  Emily O'Brien, who was slated to work in 4K, has been offered and accepted the Kindergarten position (pending board approval of course), which leaves a vacancy in her spot.  We are confident that we will find a good candidate to fill her 4K shoes, and also know that she will do a great job in Kindergarten.

All of the kindergarten teachers have been in this week as well busily preparing bulletin boards, helping with interviews, and double checking supplies and classroom materials to ensure that we have enough of everything to outfit a sixth classroom.  We currently have 91 kindergarteners ready to start a school year!  What a great "problem" to have!

It was like Christmas in August in the 1st grade hallway yesterday... as the first boxes of the brand new Wonders reading series materials arrived.  Mrs. Mink came in to go through the materials, and was super excited to see the excellent literature that the series incorporates, and the many components that will make this such a great experience for our incoming 1st graders.  The team plans to meet on Thursday to look through the materials further.

The office remodeling project is coming along nicely.  I will feel better when we have computers and phones for Mrs. Mallicoat and Mrs. Martin, but each day we are one step closer to this.  Paul Bartels, project carpenter, does a fantastic job.  You won't believe the change the next time you visit BAK!

Continue to watch for updates as we quickly come upon the start of another school year.  Preservice for new staff starts next Monday (8/27), and all staff are back next Wednesday (8/29). It is a busy time --- but an exciting time, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at open house on Wednesday, August 29th from 4-6pm (BV and the HS have open house the same evening, but from 6-8pm).

We are preparing for and anticipating a super year.  We look forward to your partnership in your child's educational journey!  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.  See you at open house.
