1st graders visit Bluff View...

Middle School Banner

1st graders had the opportunity to visit Bluff View today!  They met Mr. Amundson, the 2nd grade teachers, and were able to tour the school and play on the playground.  It was a super visit!

Please talk with your child openly about the transition to Bluff View.  Some students may experience some anxiety, as this is something new that they are not used to.  We will continue to work with the students as well.  It will be a great year for them!

Last Day of School Update...

Just an update on the last day of school...

PTO has given us the opportunity to have inflatables on the last day as well!  These are from a fundraiser that PTO sponsored.  They will also be a part of the field day activities.

If you have not returned your form regarding the last day of school, please do so!  This allows us to plan our meal as well as how many will be here for activities, etc.

We look forward to seeing you!

1st Grade Reading... Yet Another Great Job...

This will be my last blog post for today... and I write it with pride.  To look at the data from B.A. Kennedy overall, and to see that we have roughly 80% of our students above the national average in reading and math in kindergarten and 1st grade is phenomenal.  It's been a great year and I am proud to work with such amazing students and staff.  There is always room for improvement, but I commend staff for all of the great things that have been done over the last few years.  I cannot wait for what the future will hold!

Enjoy this look at 1st grade reading results.

Have a great rest of the weekend.

1st Grade Math... The Good News Continues...

Our 1st grade students are also showing tremendous growth in  math! Congrats to the 1st grade students and staff on a job well done!

Kindergarten Spring Reading Results...

We have recently completed our Spring MAP testing at B.A. Kennedy.  I always look forward to this time of the year, as it shows us the growth that our students have made throughout the course of the school year.  I am extremely proud to share what the Kindergarten staff and students have accomplished throughout this year.

I have linked to Mr. Johnson's blog in a previous post on the math results, and the reading results are posted below.

May Food 4 Thought...

Roth Fresh Farms visited for Food 4 Thought this month.  Anthony & Sarah Roth talked about their Aquaponics Greenhouse system.  The Roth's raise tilapia fish in tanks.  The nutrient-rich fish water is circulated from the tanks into large soilless beds covered with beautiful vegetables and herbs.  The plants draw nutrients from teh fish water to grow and purify it so it can be pumped back to the fish tanks.  The students got to taste aquaponic lettuce today!  Thanks to the Roth's for your visit, and to Kathleen Hein and Kate Maxfield, our Food 4 Thought coordinators.

Reading Superstars...

Tonight was the last night of our 9-week Reading Superstars program.  The students involved made such nice progress and we are so proud of them!  We invited families in to celebrate with a pizza snack.  A good time was had by all!

End of Year...

The end of the school year is quickly approaching!  We are working on plans for a fun last day celebration for students and families.  Info for that will come as soon as we have it pulled together.  If you're able, please plan to spend the morning through lunch time with your child for the last day of school.  We look forward to making this a memorable experience for all of our students!

Talent, Talent, Talent!

Bye, Bye, Butterfly!

Students in Ms. Bartels' 4K classes are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly!  The students watched the butterfly start as an egg, then as a caterpillar, next as a chrysalis, and finally a butterfly.  They were very excited to let the butterflies go off into the world today!

Arbor Day...

To celebrate Arbor Day the First Graders at B.A. Kennedy walked to the St. Feriole Island Gardens.  They heard a proclamation of Arbor Day by the City Administrator,  Mr. Aaron Kramer.  They listened to Mr. Terry Meyer, Co Public Works Director, talk about how to safely trim trees and care for them.  Mr. Mike Ulrich, City Park and Recreation Director, talked about the Emerald Ash Borer.  They saw what the bug looks like and saw what kind of damage it does to trees.  Mr. Tom Nelson talked about the history of trees on the island and the First Graders planted a tree in honor of Aldo Leopold.

First Graders, take your families down to see the tree that you planted on Arbor Day in the Gardens!
